Best Spigot Plugins for Your Free Minecraft Server
The Spigot plugin ecosystem is enormous. Here are the most battle-tested plugins that almost every Spigot server should have.
Foundation plugins (install these first)
- Vault — API that other plugins depend on for economy and permissions
- EssentialsX — /home, /warp, /tpa, /msg, /spawn, kit system, basic economy
- LuckPerms — Modern permissions plugin with web editor
Anti-grief
- CoreProtect — Block logging and rollback (essential)
- WorldGuard — Region-based protection
- GriefPrevention — Claim-based land protection (good alternative to WorldGuard)
Building
- WorldEdit — Selection-based editing with brushes, copy/paste, schematics
- VoxelSniper — Terrain sculpting with paint brushes
- HeadDatabase — Search and place player heads as decoration
Multi-world
- Multiverse-Core — Manage multiple worlds (survival + creative + nether-only)
- Multiverse-Portals — Player-built portals between worlds
Player experience
- ChatControl — Anti-spam, language filter, chat formatting
- Dynmap — Live web map of your world
- PlaceholderAPI — Adds variables like %player_name%, used by tons of other plugins
Performance & admin
- ClearLagg — Auto-removes dropped items and entities to keep TPS up
- PlugMan — Reload/unload plugins without restarting the server
Plugins that are only Paper-compatible
Note that some modern plugins use Paper-specific APIs and won't work on Spigot. If you want access to the full plugin ecosystem, consider switching to Paper — your existing Spigot setup will carry over.
