How to Install Mods and Plugins on Mohist

Mohist runs both mods and plugins from separate folders. Here's how to install each correctly on your free FreeMCServers.org Mohist server.

Folder layout

Inside your server directory you'll find:

• mods/ — Forge mods go here
• plugins/ — Bukkit/Spigot plugins go here
• config/ — Mod configuration files

Installing Forge mods

1. Open your FreeMCServers.org dashboard
2. Click your Mohist server
3. Go to Files → mods
4. Drag in your Forge mod .jar files

Installing Bukkit plugins

1. Go to Files → plugins
2. Drag in your Bukkit/Spigot plugin .jar files

Restart and verify

Restart the server from the dashboard. Watch the console — you'll see Forge loading mods first, then Bukkit loading plugins:

Players need Forge clients

Just like pure Forge, every player needs to install Forge on their Minecraft client with the same mod set. Plugins are server-only — players don't install plugins.

Common pitfalls

• Wrong folder — mods in plugins folder or vice versa won't load
• Mod incompatible with hybrid — some mods refuse to load on Mohist. Check the Mohist Discord for known issues.
• Conflicting features — a mod and a plugin both controlling currency, permissions, or grief protection will clash. Pick one source of truth.
• Plugin uses old NMS — very old plugins may fail. Use modern plugin versions.

Best practices

• Add mods first, verify they work, then add plugins
• Use LuckPerms for permissions (works with both mods and plugins)
• Use CoreProtect for block logging (works with most modded blocks)
• Test on a copy of your world before going live
